MEET THE JAPANESE POTTERS

Peter Seabridge
Peter has been working as a professional potter for 30 years. After graduating from the University of Derbyshire's ceramics course, he worked at DeMontforth University where he made his own range of ceramics, before moving to Japan in 1994. In Japan, he followed his passion to make wood-fired ceramics. For the past 25 years, he has exhibited his work widely in Japan, the UK and USA, and has participated in various workshops. He now conducts wood-fired workshops at his studio in Tokoname, Japan.

Masahiro Kumagae
Kumagae-san is from the Southern Japanese island of Kyushu, where he established his pottery studio - Utsuwa Kobo. He began his ceramics training at a specialist ceramics school in Arita, followed by an apprenticeship under renowned potter, Jiro Matsuo. He mainly makes tableware for restaurants and homes, but also makes individual pieces of ceramics for display. He makes his own glazes from natural materials, and is always experimenting with making new and interesting glazes.
